Mount Snow Announces Closing Date for 2017/18 Season Will be Sunday, April 22
April 11 2018 - 11:00AM
Peak Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ:SKIS) (“Peak” or the “Company”), a
leading owner and operator of high-quality, individually branded
U.S. ski resorts, announced today that Mount Snow has set its
official closing date for the 2017/18 season on Sunday, April 22,
2018, marking an end to the resort’s longest season in more than a
decade totaling 162 days of continuous operation. Thanks in part to
over 80 inches of snowfall received during what locals have deemed
“Miracle March” as well as the most expansive snowmaking operations
in the resort’s history, Mount Snow will enjoy ample snow coverage
on the majority of its trails across three of its four mountain
faces through closing.
The 2017/18 season began on a high note, with
Mount Snow’s earliest opening in over a decade featuring the most
open terrain in the East, a title the mountain held through the
Thanksgiving holiday. The early opening was facilitated by the West
Lake Water Project, a major snowmaking upgrade that debuted just in
time for the start of the season. This critical infrastructure
investment allowed Mount Snow to make snow and resurface trails
during each of the six months the mountain was open between
November and April.
“While the natural snowfall we received towards
the end of the season was a great bonus, our new $30 million
snowmaking system really proved itself to be invaluable this
winter,” said Erik Barnes, Vice President and General Manager of
Mount Snow. “No matter what Mother Nature’s plans were, our guests
knew they could count on us to deliver the best possible skiing and
riding conditions from opening day back in November through the end
of the season in mid-April.”
Over in Carinthia Parks, the #1 park in the East
as voted by both TransWorld Snowboarding and Newschoolers.com, the
dedicated park team again led East Coast skiing and riding, both in
the rate at which Carinthia opened as well as in the overall
variety and number of features available to guests throughout the
season. With the opening of the first two jumps in the East in
November and the planned addition of new features right up to the
final weekend of operations, Carinthia Parks once again set the
standard all other mountains follow. As Mount Snow and Peak Resorts
look ahead to next season, progress continues on the brand new $22
million, 42,000 square foot Carinthia Base Lodge, which is set to
open ahead of the 2018/19 season and Carinthia Parks’ 10th
Anniversary Celebration.
As word of the great conditions and overall
guest experience spread among skiers and riders throughout the
season, Mount Snow saw an influx of new guests visiting the
mountain, both from sister resorts on the Peak Pass and from first
time day-trippers. These new guests, along with our loyal returning
guests, visited not only for our incredible conditions but also for
events such as Reggaefest and the Minus Zero Festival, both of
which drew thousands of non-skiing and riding attendees during
Mount Snow’s Spring Festival Season.
Those looking to take advantage of the final
days of the season can put $99 down on a 2018/19 Peak Pass and ski
for free at Mount Snow through April 22, 2018 as well as at Wildcat
Mountain in New Hampshire, which is planning on operating into May.
