DENVER, March 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita Inc.
(NYSE: DVA), a leading provider of kidney care services in the
United States, honors World Kidney
Day, a campaign that raises awareness about kidney health and
chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevention, by hosting a panel event
at its world headquarters. Individuals can join the discussion
through the livestream starting at 5:30 p.m.
ET/2:30 p.m. PT today.
The event will bring together DaVita teammates (employees) and
leaders in the Denver community to
talk about kidney health. Panelists will include representatives
from the American Transplant Foundation, National Kidney
Foundation, Denver Health and DaVita. In support of this year's
World Kidney Day theme of women's health and empowerment, the event
will focus on policy and advocacy, transplants and living donors,
health equity and patient care.
"Our kidneys perform many critical functions, and people with
kidney disease usually don't have symptoms until they have lost a
significant amount of their kidney function," said Amanda Hale, RN, vice president of nursing for
DaVita Kidney Care. "We strive to
empower individuals to learn more about their risks for kidney
disease and take control of their health."
CKD is a condition that impacts one in 10 people worldwide and
more than one in seven U.S. adults. Kidneys are the body's
filtration system, removing waste and extra fluid while balancing
chemicals that are necessary for kidneys to function. Individuals
with kidney disease lose the ability to effectively remove waste
from the body. When CKD progresses to end stage renal disease
(ESRD), dialysis or a kidney transplant is vital for survival.
Lifestyle changes, including eating healthy and effectively
managing medications are two ways that may help CKD from
progressing to ESRD or prevent other health conditions, such as
heart disease.
DaVita offers a variety of kidney care educational resources,
including:
- Risk Quiz: This 60-second assessment can help individuals
determine if they may be at risk for kidney disease.
- myDaVita: From tracking a kidney-friendly diet to accessing
dialysis health records, the resources offered through myDaVita can
help patients and/or caregivers understand all aspects of kidney
care management.
- Treatment Resource Hub: Patients can learn about treatment
options to help cope with ESRD such as dialyzing at home or in a
center while waiting to receive a kidney transplant.
