Comcast announced today that it is launching a new internet
service that will deliver speeds up to 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps)
to residential and business customers in Sacramento, California and
nine surrounding cities. These speeds will be among the fastest and
most widely available in the region and include access to the
nation’s largest Wi-Fi network of more than 18 million
hotspots.
In addition to Sacramento, homes and businesses in these nine
communities will also have access to Gigabit Internet speeds:
- Antelope
- Carmichael
- Citrus Heights
- Elk Grove
- Folsom
- Galt
- Rancho Cordova
- Rio Linda
- Roseville
The McClellan Airforce Base will also have access to these new
faster Internet speeds.
“With this offering, Comcast will have the broadest deployment
of Gigabit Internet speeds throughout Northern California,” said
John Gauder, Regional Vice President, Comcast California. “This is
yet another proof-point that our broadband and WiFi networks are
powerful, flexible and built for speed. We’ve increased internet
speeds 17 times in the past 16 years and we will continue to bring
California customers the absolute fastest speeds possible by
proactively investing in our advanced, high performance
network.”
The company’s new 1 Gigabit internet service will use DOCSIS 3.1
technology to deliver the speeds over the existing communications
lines that most people already have in their homes. To enjoy the
service, all customers need to do is install a new DOCSIS 3.1 cable
modem. New and current customers in California can visit
Xfinity.com/gig to learn about the new service and request
additional information.
“By providing world class internet speeds, Comcast is
demonstrating its commitment to helping Sacramento transform into
an urban technology lab that will help drive economic development,”
said Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “The City and the region
are at a critical time in our growth and Gigabit Internet speed is
key for residents, telecommuters and businesses of all sizes to
move the economy forward."
Comcast Business will also launch DOCSIS 3.1-based internet
service to business customers in Sacramento and the surrounding
cities listed above. With the continued roll out of its gig-speed
network, Comcast’s "Business Internet 1 Gig" and "Business Internet
500" speed tiers are now available to business customers in the
area using the company’s existing network, without the need for any
costly or disruptive construction of new network facilities.
Businesses of all sizes are moving to cloud-based operations
models and placing a premium on high-capacity, high-performance
internet connectivity. DOCSIS 3.1 business internet service from
Comcast Business unleashes a new option for accessing gigabit
speeds in any business environment – whether a distributed
enterprise with locations across the country or a small business
with only a handful of locations. The speed and cost efficiencies
afforded by Comcast Business’s gig-speed network make it ideally
suited for businesses across several industries such as retail,
healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, education and
government.
The everyday price for Residential Gigabit Internet service in
California is $159.95, without a contract. The company also has a
limited time offer for new Internet customers, with pricing of
$89.99 per month, with a one-year agreement. Pricing for current
customers with a contract will vary.
Pricing for Comcast Business services varies based on a
business’s location or number of locations to be served and the
services to which the business currently subscribes. Customers can
contact their local Comcast salesperson or agent/partner for more
information. Businesses already served by Comcast can upgrade to
Business Internet 1 Gig or Business Internet 500 by simply calling
the Company or visiting: http://business.comcast.com/gig.
