Nalini Tailor, Branch Team Leader in Decatur, Ill., receives
Regions Bank’s top associate honor for helping survivors of
domestic violence learn to fight back
As a young banker in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1985, Nalini
Tailor had built up enough time off for a seven-week vacation. She
came to the U.S. with a goal of meeting the man of her dreams – a
family friend she had only seen in a photo.

Tailor met her dreamboat in New York City. He proposed two hours
later. They got married, had a son, and celebrated their 30th
wedding anniversary this year.
“My son was interested in karate as a boy, so I signed up to do
karate with him,” Tailor said. She earned a black belt from actor
Chuck Norris and retired from Karate after 13 years.
Tailor found a way to keep using her martial arts gifts. Since
2008, she has taught self-defense classes for Dove, Inc., a
nonprofit organization in Decatur, Ill., that supports families
affected by domestic violence.
“It’s good to give money to the causes you support, but when you
actually serve people, it’s much more rewarding,” Tailor said. “I
feel that anyone who faces abuse needs to know how to defend
themselves. That’s what drives me to help domestic violence
victims.”
Citing her passion for serving others, Regions Bank today
announced that Tailor, a Branch Team Leader in Decatur, is the
August 2017 recipient of the Regions Bank Better Life Award. The
Better Life Award is the top honor given to any Regions associate
for outstanding dedication and job performance, as well as
exemplary involvement and commitment to the community.
In addition to the recognition, Regions donates $1,000 in the
name of the recipient to a nonprofit organization of the winner’s
choice. Tailor chose Dove, Inc., because of her work with the
organization.
Tailor also serves as president of the Decatur India Association
and president of the Sai Center Hindu temple. She organizes special
events, speaks to community groups and encourages support of local
Indian initiatives.
A video about Tailor’s community service is available on the
