OMAHA, Neb., June 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- At AT&T1, we've invested nearly $90 million in our Nebraska wireless and wired networks during 2014-2016. These investments drive a wide range of upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses. They also improve critical services that support public safety and first responders.

In 2016, AT&T made more than 150 wireless network upgrades in Nebraska. Included in this are the upgrades we continue to make to our Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at the stadium in Omaha to give College Baseball Championship fans a great wireless experience. A DAS is a network of several small antennas designed to enhance wireless service within an area or building.

The DAS at the stadium boosts network capacity, which helps lessen the pressure on wireless networks when thousands of people are using their mobile devices at the same time. Since AT&T launched the DAS three years ago, network capacity in and around the stadium has doubled.

"For Nebraska to continue to thrive and grow, it's crucial we have companies invest in our state's technology infrastructure," said Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts. "By investing in our state, AT&T is making business growth possible and providing our residents with the tools to stay connected and entertained."

The AT&T LTE network covers more than 400 million people in North America.

For the third year in a row, FORTUNE magazine recognized AT&T as the Most Admired Telecommunications Company in the world in 2017. We also ranked No. 37 among the Top 50 World's Most Admired companies.

AT&T is the only telecommunications company on the list. We ranked No. 1 in all 9 attributes. This included innovation, financial soundness and quality of products/services.

We have an extensive Wi-Fi network with more than 40,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers. And we provide access to Wi-Fi at more than 1 million locations around the world. Most AT&T smartphone and home internet customers get access to the entire national AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot network2 at no additional cost. Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.
