Chinese autonomous driving firm Pony.ai (NASDAQ:PONY) has announced a new collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to roll out its robotaxi services in the Emirate, marking a significant step in its Middle East expansion strategy.
The partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday, aligns with Dubai’s long-term goal to have 25% of all road transport powered by autonomous vehicles by 2030.
As part of the initiative, Pony.ai aims to begin large-scale production of its seventh-generation robotaxi model by the second half of 2025. The company is preparing to accelerate its deployment of autonomous vehicles not only in Dubai but across other international markets in the coming years.
Pony.ai collaborates with major automotive manufacturers such as Toyota (NYSE:TM) and GAC Motor to manufacture its self-driving vehicles. These alliances have played a key role in helping the company expand its robotaxi footprint across Asia and beyond.
Earlier in May, Pony.ai also inked a deal with Uber (NYSE:UBER) to bring its autonomous mobility services to additional Middle Eastern markets, underscoring its aggressive push into the region.
With operations already running in several cities across China and a fleet of approximately 300 robotaxis, Pony.ai is one of the global leaders in the autonomous vehicle space. The company also holds testing licenses in the United States and Luxembourg, further solidifying its international presence.
This partnership with Dubai signals Pony.ai’s ambition to become a central player in the future of urban mobility, particularly in regions investing heavily in smart city infrastructure and AI-driven transport solutions.
