Volkswagen AG's sales for its Volkswagen brand plunged in April as a result of the coronavirus hit, the company said on Monday.

The German car maker registered a roughly 68% fall in VW brand sales in Germany. Sales in Europe fell more than 83%, the company said, adding that in some affected countries--including the U.K., Italy, Spain and France--almost no vehicles were sold.

In the U.S., April sales were down 35%, while in China the company registered only a 2.5% fall and said it expects to reach the same levels as last year in May.
