The new chief executive of Renault SA (RNO.FR) could be
announced "in a few days," French Finance Minister Bruno le Maire
told television broadcaster CNEWS on Tuesday.
"[Chairman] Jean-Dominique Senard and the board of directors are
on the case. I think that in a matter of days, we will, at least I
hope, have a new chief executive for Renault," Mr. le Maire
said.
The French car maker, in which France holds a 15% stake, is
widely expected to appoint Luca de Meo. Mr. De Meo most recently
served as president of Volkswagen AG's (VOW.XE) Seat brand, before
stepping down on Jan. 7.
Renault wasn't immediately available for comment.
The company has had two CEOs since former chief Carlos Ghosn was
arrested in Japan in November 2018 on charges of financial
misconduct connected to Renault's alliance partner Nissan Motor Co.
(7201.TO), which he has denied.
Mr. Ghosn resigned from Renault in January 2019. His successor
Thierry Bollore was fired in October after he demanded an
independent probe of Nissan's investigation into Mr. Ghosn. Nissan
dismissed his calls for an independent audit and accused Mr.
Bollore of being sympathetic to Mr. Ghosn.
Mr. Bollore was replaced by Clotilde Delbos, who has been
serving as CEO on an interim basis since October.
