Siemens AG (SIE.XE) said Wednesday it will modernize luggage
security systems at Spain's five busiest airports for around 164
million euros ($179.7 million).
The contract was signed with Spanish airport operator AENA,
which controls the airports of Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de
Mallorca, Malaga and Gran Canaria. The new inspection system will
be able to handle up to 1800 pieces of luggage per hour and is
expected to significantly increase traveler safety in compliance
with international security rules, Siemens said.
