Special Bursary Fund Also Established to Help
Educate the Next Generation of Health Care Workers
TORONTO, May 13, 2020 /CNW/ - CIBC announced today it is
recognizing Canadian frontline health care workers who have
sacrificed so much to keep us safe during COVID-19 by providing 30
million Aventura points to give these tireless workers a
well-deserved break to recharge and reconnect with family.
"As we mark National Nursing Week this week, it's timely to
reflect on the role health care workers are playing in our society
today. No one will need a physical and mental break when we emerge
from this pandemic more than our frontline health care workers,"
said Victor G. Dodig, President and
CEO, CIBC. "Since the beginning of this pandemic, our communities
have relied heavily on their strength and courage, and our new
Holidays for Heroes program is one way to show our appreciation for
all they've done for us."
Through the CIBC Holidays for Heroes program, Canadians are
invited to nominate a frontline health care worker who has made a
contribution to keeping us safe during this challenging time, and
who has earned a well-deserved break for their efforts. CIBC has
provided 30 million Aventura travel rewards points to recognize
health care workers who will be chosen at random to receive a
travel voucher, allowing them to take a holiday at a future date,
reconnect with their families, and re-energize themselves.
Nominations are open to all Canadians and can be made at
CIBCHolidaysForHeroes.com.
"The Holidays for Heroes program is one way we can show our deep
appreciation for the sacrifices our frontline health care workers
have made for Canadians, by giving them the opportunity to rest and
recharge with their families," added Mr. Dodig. "The holidays these
heroes take are also one small way of supporting local businesses
when economies can safely reopen."
In addition, the bank is establishing the CIBC Future Heroes
Fund Bursary Program to help the next generation of health
care workers realize their ambition of having a career in health
care. This two-year program will award 200 bursaries valued at
$2,500 each, to first year students
enrolling in a range of health care programs at targeted
post-secondary schools across the country.
Canadians are invited to contribute to further the impact of the
fund by visiting the link here.
"The dedication and sacrifices by our frontline health care
workers today will inspire the next generation of Canadians, and
we're proud to be contributing to the education of tomorrow's
health care professionals through the CIBC Future Heroes fund,"
added Mr. Dodig. "There is no better way to recognize the legacy of
health care workers during this time than investing in the health
care workers of the future."
