VMware Inc. said Tuesday that it plans to acquire SaltStack Inc., which builds intelligent, event-driven automation software.

Once the deal has closed, SaltStack will allow VMware to deliver full-stack automation from infrastructure to applications with the ability to do software configuration inside VMs and containers, said Alex Wang, vice president of corporate development, on the company's website.

Mr. Wang didn't provide any details of the deal.
