The White House hosted a meeting Wednesday morning with officials from Facebook Inc., Alphabet's Google, Amazon Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Twitter Inc. to discuss ways they can assist with the government's response to the coronavirus.

At the meeting, the White House urged the companies to help stop the spread of misinformation about the virus online and to use technology to track cases of the disease, according to an administration official.

Agency and White House officials attended the meeting in person, but tech company executives dialed in remotely, the administration official said.

A separate meeting planned for Wednesday with Wall Street executives will be held in-person, another administration official said.
