Spanish telecom company Telefonica SA (TEF.MC) said Friday that it plans to cancel its listing on the London Stock Exchange because of the low volume of trading.

Telefonica, which owns U.K. cellphone operator O2, said the volume of trading doesn't justify the costs associated with the listing.

The company's London-listed shares should be cancelled by May 16, Telefonica said.
