As first runner-up with 4,957 votes, SmileFaith, Inc. of New
Port Richey, Florida, will receive $2,500 from Regions. The 13
additional nonprofits in the contest will each receive grants of
$500 or $1,000 based on vote totals. All participating nonprofits,
regardless of vote totals, will receive a volunteer day from
Regions teams.
Beyond providing financial support and volunteerism, Regions
designed the What a Difference a Day Makes Grant Award Contest to
raise greater awareness of nonprofits that honor and serve the
military community. During November, visitors to
regions.doingmoretoday.com could read these profiles of each
nonprofit in this fall’s contest. Readers could then cast an online
vote once per day for their favorite organization.
“We are deeply grateful for the service and sacrifice of
America’s veterans, our active-duty servicemembers, and their
families. Through What a Difference a Day Makes, Regions can shine
a light on nonprofits that are dedicated to honoring and supporting
the military community,” said Keith Herron, head of Corporate
Responsibility and Community Engagement at Regions. “By raising
greater awareness, and by supporting these organizations through
volunteerism and the grants we are announcing today, our goal is to
help these nonprofits further their missions and reach more
people.”
The mission of the PTSD Foundation of America is to bring hope
and healing to combat veterans and their families, raising
awareness of challenges faced within the military community and
delivering resources to help. The organization’s Camp Hope facility
opened in 2012 and provides intensive peer support and mentoring
for those affected by combat-related post-traumatic stress
disorder.
“The peer-to-peer program we offer has proven extremely
effective in saving and changing lives of our veterans,” explained
David Maulsby, Executive Director of the PTSD Foundation of
America. “Dealing with combat-related post-traumatic stress
disorder is complex and requires individualized care and support.
These veterans served in every branch of the military and every
era, from World War II to those still wearing the uniform today.
Each has earned our best efforts, and we are committed to providing
the best care and compassion to these men and women, as well as
their families. We appreciate Regions’ support, and we look forward
to using the grant and volunteer support to fuel vital
services.”
What a Difference a Day Makes is a yearlong Regions Bank
program. It provides Regions associates with a paid day off each
year to support a variety of nonprofit initiatives. Also, in April,
Regions organized a similar online contest to raise support for
organizations sharing financial education.
