Nokia Corp. said Thursday that it will halve emissions across both its own operations and its products in use by customers between 2019 and 2030.

"The company's new science-based targets fulfill its commitment to recalibrate in line with a 1.5 degrees Celsius global warming scenario," it said.

Nokia first committed to science-based targets in 2017, initially with goals based on limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius.

The new target covers close to 100% of the company's current product portfolio and includes emissions from both logistics and assembly factories within its supply chain, as well as emissions from Nokia's own operations, it added.

Nokia said products in use are the largest part of its carbon footprint and it is addressing the problem in multiple ways, from hardware and software energy efficiency to product design, modernization and better use of resources.
