Merck & Co. said Sunday that it had donated half a million protective masks to New York City to help fight the spread of coronavirus in the world's financial center.

The Kenilworth, N.J.-based pharmaceutical company said the masks were delivered Sunday morning to New York City Emergency Management, which coordinates citywide planning and response for emergencies such as the coronavirus.

The State of New York has reported at least 15,793 cases of Covid-19, or close to half of the U.S. total, according to The Wall Street Journal's coronavirus tracker.
