HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.LN) said Wednesday it had appointed Stephen Moss as regional chief executive for Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada, and Nuno Matos as CEO of HSBC Bank PLC and Europe, both effective from March 1.

HSBC Holdings said Mr. Moss is currently head of strategy and planning, and is chief of staff to the company's Chief Executive Noel Quinn.

Mr. Matos was chief executive of HSBC Mexico and has held a number of roles at Santander Group, the company said. He succeeds James Emmett, who has decided to step down as chief executive of HSBC Bank plc, effective Feb. 29, and will retire from the group on Sept. 30 after 25 years of service.

Shares at 1245 were up 5.1 pence, or 0.9%, at 568.4 pence.
