Harris Corporation Awarded DigitalGlobe Satellite Control System
Upgrade and Expansion Contract COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 29
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation today announced that
is has signed a contract with DigitalGlobe(R) to support its
Satellite Control System Upgrade and Expansion program. Harris will
provide the satellite command and control system for DigitalGlobe's
currently operational QuickBird remote sensing satellite and for
its new WorldView satellite. The Harris OS/COMET(R) product will
provide the command and control system for managing a constellation
of satellites, including QuickBird, WorldView, and future
spacecraft. The announcement was made during the 20th National
Space Symposium (Harris Booth #3), heldMarch 29 - April 1, at the
Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Harris Technical Services
Corporation's (HTSC's) satellite command and control system
solution for DigitalGlobe will be based on the new LINUX version of
the Harris OS/COMET product line.OS/COMET is an advanced software
tool set featuring a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) design that
provides a high level of flexibility. Designed for government and
commercial applications, it is used to support single-satellite
missions as well as the largest and most complex satellite networks
deployed today, including Iridium, GPS, and the U.S. Navy Space
Operations Command's (NAVSOC) fleet of sixteen spacecraft. OS/COMET
also features a suite of "bolt-on" products that provide enhanced
capabilities such as operations automation, ground equipment
control, automated fault resolution, spacecraft simulation, and
TT&C functionality via a PC client. "DigitalGlobe's selection
of HTSC and OS/COMET re-affirms our preeminence in the Low Earth
Orbit command and control marketplace," said Bruce Buckley,
director, HTSC programs, Harris Government Communications Systems
Division (GCSD). "DigitalGlobe's choice of the new LINUX version of
OS/COMET will provide them with greatly increased flexibility in
available ground system hardware and tools." DigitalGlobe is the
world leader in providing commercial, high-resolution satellite
imagery to both commercial and government customers. DigitalGlobe
was recently awarded the NextView contract to provide
high-resolution imaging to the National Geospatial-intelligence
Agency (NGA). HTSC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris
