for Cellular System Backbone, Voice and Data Traffic REDWOOD
SHORES, Calif., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris
Corporation , a leading global provider of digital wireless
equipment and services, has supplied Volga Telecom of Russia with
Megastar(R) radios to provide backhaul for its network, including
its cellular systems. Volga Telecom is a regional fixed-line
operator in the process of consolidating the mobile phone operators
in its region into the Volga Mobile Company. The consolidation is
expected to be completed by the end of 2004. Currently Volga
Telecom, headquartered in Nizniy Novgorod, is one of the largest
telecommunications companies in Russia and operates as a
multi-service provider for 11 regions within the Privolzhskiy
Federal Region. Harris Megastar 155 radios provide Volga Telecom
with true broadband capability along with powerful propagation
characteristics that ensure a reliable and robust network. Megastar
is deployed at more than 3,000 sites around the world in networks
of all types. It offers high and very high capacities along with a
high degree of scalability, allowing Volga to meet current and
future needs. The system expands capacity easily and cost-
effectively as the number of subscribers grows. "We chose Harris
