Showcases Box Shield, Box Relay, Integrations
with IBM, Slack, and Microsoft Teams
Tomorrow at BoxWorks 2019, Box (NYSE:BOX), a leader in
cloud content management, will showcase several advancements to
help enterprises secure their most important information, drive
seamless internal and external collaboration and workflows, and
integrate their content across all the applications their teams use
every day. The company will preview enhancements to Box Shield, Box
Relay, new integrations with IBM to deliver artificial intelligence
(AI) and security capabilities, a new Box for Slack integration,
and a new Box for Microsoft Teams integration.
“Businesses need a cloud content management platform that’s
built for how we work today. They need security for their
mission-critical content, while also making it easy for people to
collaborate on business processes with their extended enterprise of
colleagues, partners, and customers,” said Jeetu Patel, Chief
Product Officer at Box. “Box pioneered cloud content management,
and with the new Box Shield, Box Relay, and these new integrations,
we’ll help our customers simplify how they work and transform their
business in the cloud.”
Frictionless Security and Compliance
Built natively into Box, Box Shield helps prevent accidental
data leakage, detects potential access misuse, and proactively
identifies relevant threats. Box Shield helps enterprises prevent
accidental data leaks through a system of manual or automated
security classifications for files and folders, and
classification-based access policies.
Account admins can define custom classification labels and
policies per label that combine multiple security controls, such
as:
- Shared link restriction to specify who can access shared
links.
- External collaborator restriction to limit external
collaboration to approved lists of domains or completely block it
based on the sensitivity of the content.
- Download restriction to restrict file or folder downloads
across specific applications.
- Application restriction to specify which third-party
applications and custom apps can download sensitive content from
Box.
- FTP restriction to restrict FTP transfers and uploads of files
and folders.
In addition to preventing accidental data leakage via
classification-based security policies, Box Shield empowers
customers to detect abnormal and potentially malicious behavior
from internal and external threats. Powered by machine learning,
Box Shield identifies and alerts admins of potential threats, such
as:
- Anomalous downloads: Receive real-time, contextual alerts when
unusual user behavior is detected that indicates attempted data
theft, such as notable changes to download behavior.
- Suspicious sessions: Detect a potentially compromised account
based on a rapid change in an employee’s location, as well as
additional context about the browsers, devices, and Box
applications that they typically use. For example, if someone is
downloading a file in London and then sharing a different file from
Singapore five minutes later, it’s possible their account is
compromised.
- Access from suspicious locations: Detect access or downloads
happening in untrusted locations or high-risk countries that are
defined by a security team’s policy-defined whitelists or
blacklists of locations and IP ranges.
Seamless Internal and External Collaboration and
Workflow
At BoxWorks, Box will unveil enhancements to Box Relay, which
enables enterprises to streamline routine, collaborative business
processes in Box – such as document review and approvals and the
onboarding and offboarding of projects, vendors and employees –
helping drive efficiencies at scale. New Box Relay features being
previewed at BoxWorks will include:
- Applying metadata values: Add or update custom metadata
values as a step in the workflow.
- Rejection routing: The ability to revert back to a step
specified by the user when a workflow is rejected.
- Exportable activity history: Download details about
actions that happened around the file in the workflow.
- Manual start: The option to manually kick-off workflows
from owned or co-owned files.
- Flexible task completion: Assign specific tasks to Box
Groups or require one or all assignees in a workflow to complete
the task.
- Mobile approval and rejection: Approve, reject and
complete tasks with one click from any mobile device.
New Integrations with IBM for Added Governance and
Security
With the rise of data protection regulation around the world,
from Europe’s GDPR, to the upcoming California Consumer Privacy Act
set to take effect Jan. 1, Box and IBM have extended their
relationship and announced expanded capabilities for data
protection, governance and compliance in the enterprise. The
companies announced:
- The integration of IBM’s new Watson Knowledge Catalog InstaScan
tool to give Box customers the ability to identify sensitive data
throughout their Box folders. With InstaScan, Box customers can set
the parameters for what type of data is allowed based on corporate
policy, and then run risk assessments on their folders to ensure
data is compliant. InstaScan is designed to give users greater
trust and confidence in the data, knowing that sensitive data is
identified and able to be quickly remedied.
- Plans to integrate IBM X-Force threat intelligence and QRadar
with Box Shield for advanced threat intelligence, investigation,
and response. These integrations will be able to help detect
abnormal file access and transfers as well as flag techniques used
by known cybercriminals.
“IBM and Box have a history of partnering to bring clients
greater collaborative and data capabilities,” said Rob Thomas,
General Manager, IBM Data and AI. “Today, we’re extending that work
further to integrate a new Watson technology that automates the
process of identifying sensitive data, helping to speed compliance
and provide Box users greater trust in the data.”
Box for Slack and Box for Microsoft Teams
Integrations
Box integrates with a wide range of more than 1,400
applications, giving people the ability to easily and securely
integrate their content across their IT stack. Tomorrow, Box will
preview all new integrations with Slack and Microsoft Teams,
providing an enhanced and more tightly integrated experience to
ensure seamless and secure collaboration.
- The new Box for Slack integration will provide rich contextual
information on shared files with content cards and the ability to
set file permissions within Slack to provide users with access and
enforce Box permissions in Slack with granular controls.
