Stamps.com® (NASDAQ: STMP), the leading provider of postage online and shipping software, today announced its widespread support of the Extraordinary Congress’s final vote that will allow the U.S. to remain in the Universal Postal Union. The decision is designed to even the playing field for U.S. e-commerce retailers. The U.S. reached the landmark agreement with other members of the Universal Postal Union on a renegotiation of the terminal dues structure, thus averting a U.S. pullout from the UPU. Delegates passed “Option V” - a reform package that includes the go-ahead for the United States to move to self-declared rates for inbound packets and bulky letters on July 1, 2020. The self-declared rates will be applied on a reciprocal basis meaning other countries can charge self-declared rates on U.S. packets and bulky letters.

"We are very happy to learn that the U.S. will remain a member of the Universal Postal Union,” said Ken McBride, Chairman and CEO of Stamps.com. “This is great news for our e-commerce customers in the United States. Online retailers across all our business units rely heavily on the USPS for international shipping, and this UPU decision means their businesses can be far more competitive in the global marketplace. With fairer shipping costs, U.S.-based e-commerce sellers can now compete on a more even playing field. We are thrilled that the USPS will remain a key component of our GlobalPost international delivery network. We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.”

GlobalPost, Stamps.com’s international shipping service, will continue to offer the top international shipping services available in the market. The recent UPU decision means that all USPS international shipping options along with other commercial carriers will appear in the GlobalPost delivery network.
