InPlay Technologies (NASDAQ: NPLA) today announced that as the only
pen input solution with digital stream communication available
today, its unique writing pens and LCD digitizers are ideally
suited for the new pen input features available in Windows Vista.
According to Microsoft, the Windows Tablet Technology in Windows
Vista delivers significant improvements to the pen navigation
experience with a focus on making the pen an even more powerful and
useful device. Among the new features, users of most versions of
Windows Vista can assign key commands or actions to simple pen
gestures called flicks. The Handwriting Recognition
Personalization Tool allows users to tailor recognition results to
their own personal handwriting style, and distinct hovering and
tapping feedback enables the pen to be used as comfortably as a
mouse. All versions of Windows Vista excluding Home Basic are
expected to provide complete built-in pen functionality. Leveraging
the unique digital input technology formerly sold under the
FinePoint Innovations name, InPlays hardware enables OEMs to
develop innovative new features for incorporation into future
Windows Vista-based products. Our digital pen technology is
uniquely positioned to take full advantage of the Windows Vista
platform and support for pen input, said Ramesh Ramchandani, vice
president at InPlay. The analog technology used on most systems
today has limited expansion capability. With digital signaling
technology, our system enables nearly limitless future feature
enhancements. Were excited about the tremendous support and
enthusiasm our partners around the world are showing for Windows
Vista, said Dave Wascha, director of partner marketing
communications for Windows Client at Microsoft Corp. By working
closely with valued partners like InPlay we are helping to provide
a high quality product and an improved user experience, which
ultimately benefits our mutual customers. The MagicPoint system
consists of a digitizer behind the LCD and digital writing pen.
InPlay is advancing pen computing technology, using a cordless,
active RF digital pen versus the analog pen used with most pen
computing systems in the tablet PC market today. InPlay offers OEMs
the choice of a self-powered pen or a battery-free pen. The
MagicPoint self-powered pen, already in the hands of thousands of
consumers,has a maintenance-free, long-life battery, eliminating
the need to pull power from the computer. The MagicPoint
battery-free technology is designed and engineered to optimize
power consumption while maintaining high accuracy, high resolution
and low noise performance. The MagicPoint driver has been designed
to work with Windows Vista and is tested and compatible with both
the 32-bit and 64-bit editions ofWindows Vista. More information
