Hannity, Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Ingraham Angle and The Five Finish July as the Top Four Cable News Programs in Both Categories, Maddow Bumped to Fifth

FOX & Friends Beats CNN and MSNBC Combined in Both Categories and Continues Reign as Number One Morning Show in Cable News for 213 Months in a Row, While CNN's New Day Suffers Lowest-Rated Demo in Five Years

FNC’s Outnumbered Overtime with Harris Faulkner Hits Major Stride in Last Two Weeks of July, Outperforming ABC’s Strahan and Sara in Total Viewers

MSNBC Has Lowest-Rated Month in the 25-54 Demo Since President Trump Took Office

FOX News Channel (FNC) continued to dominate all of basic cable during the month of July as the most-watched network in total day for 37 consecutive months among total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. As the top cable news network for the 211th month in a row, FNC garnered 1.4 million viewers in total day and 2.4 million viewers in primetime. Additionally, July marked MSNBC’s lowest-rated month in the 25-54 demographic since President Trump took office.

For the month of July, FNC programs accounted for 11 of the top 15 cable news programs in both total viewers and in the 25-54 demo. Hannity, Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Ingraham Angle and The Five made up four of the top five cable news programs across the board, beating MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, which plummeted to number five in both categories.

Throughout total day and primetime, FNC continued to beat CNN and MSNBC in total viewers and Adults 25-54. In primetime, FNC secured 2,438,000 beating CNN’s 797,000 and MSNBC’s 1,503,000 total viewers. With Adults 25-54, FNC garnered 378,000, topping CNN’s 201,000 and MSNBC’s 222,000. In total day, FNC averaged 1,378,000 viewers, trouncing CNN’s 557,000 and MSNBC’s 852,000. In total day demo, FNC averaged 237,000 ranking ahead of CNN with 131,000 and MSNBC with 125,000 viewers.

Kicking off FNC’s daytime programming, the 4AM/ET hour of FOX & Friends First garnered 503,000 viewers and 118,000 with A25-54. The 5AM/ET hour of FOX & Friends First had a total of 658,000 viewers and 156,000 in the demo. Continuing to make cable news history, FNC’s signature morning show FOX & Friends marked 213 months as the number one cable news program in its timeslot, with an average of 1.4 million viewers and 265,000 in the demo, while CNN’s New Day only secured 427,000 viewers and experienced its lowest-rated A25-54 demo in five years (97,000 A25-54). At 9AM/ET, America’s Newsroom delivered 1.4 million viewers and 219,000 with A25-54. FNC’s 12PM/ET afternoon ensemble program, Outnumbered garnered 1.4 million viewers and 222,000 in the 25-54 category.

Most notably, Outnumbered Overtime anchored by Harris Faulkner delivered 1.3 million viewers and 207,000 with A25-54, hitting a major stride for the last two weeks of July and consistently outperforming ABC News’s Strahan and Sara in total viewers. July marked the first time that Faulkner topped the broadcast show for nearly half the month, having beaten ABC News’s new offering multiple times before in previous months since it launched.

In the 2PM/ET hour, The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino averaged 1.3 million viewers and 190,000 in the 25-54 demo, while the 3PM/ET hour with Shepard Smith Reporting averaged 1.3 million viewers and 194,000 with A25-54. Your World with Neil Cavuto at 4PM/ET delivered 1.4 million viewers/231,000 in the 25-54 demo, beating Nicolle Wallace and Jake Tapper which marks a six month winning streak over both CNN and MSNBC.

During FNC’s early evening and primetime programming, The Five garnered 2.5 million viewers and 398,000 in the demo, beating CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers and with A25-54 while also being up year over year. Anchored by chief political anchor Bret Baier at 6PM/ET, Special Report averaged 2.1 million viewers and 345,000 in the 25-54 demo. Special Report also had the number one non-sports telecast in total viewers for President Trump’s Salute to America Speech on July 4th. The Story with Martha MacCallum at 7PM/ET delivered 1.9 million viewers and 324,000 with A25-54.

At 8PM/ET, Tucker Carlson Tonight delivered 3.1 million viewers and 519,000 with A25-54, ranking the number two cable news programs for the month and also topping CNN and MSNBC combined in both total viewers and demo. Hannity at 9PM/ET continued as the most-watched cable news program in both categories for the fourth month in a row with 3.3 million viewers and 527,000 in the 25-54 demo. The Ingraham Angle, hosted by Laura Ingraham, averaged 2.6 million viewers and 418,000 in the 25-54 demo and ranked third in all of cable news in both categories. FOX News @ Night with Shannon Bream garnered 1.4 million viewers and 279,000 in the key 25-54 demo, beating MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Brian Williams for the fifth month in a row in the demo. Additionally, MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Brian Williams hit its second lowest-rated demo since the program launched and its lowest-rated month in total viewers since January 2017.

During the weekends, FNC’s late-night comedy program The Greg Gutfeld Show on Saturdays at 10PM/ET delivered its highest-rated month in both categories of 2019 to-date, securing 1,868,000 million viewers and 299,000 in the demo. Additionally, Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo garnered 1,324,000 viewers and 246,000 in the demo on Sundays at 10AM/ET. MediaBuzz hosted by Howie Kurtz delivered 1,186,000 million viewers and 212,000 in the 25-54 demo, easily besting CNN’s Reliable Sources (P2+ 612,000; A25-54 136,000). The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton, averaged 1,374,000 viewers and 189,000 in the demo, beating CNN and MSNBC in the timeslot.
