A Facebook Inc. (FB) data center in the U.S. state of Georgia
will be supplied with renewable energy as part of a deal with
customer-owned power company Walton Electric Membership Corp.
Walton said it executed contracts with Silicon Ranch, the U.S.
solar platform for Shell, on behalf of Facebook for two new solar
projects in the state with a combined capacity of 125MW.
Silicon Ranch will fund, build, own and operate the facilities.
The 25MW Appling Solar Farm is scheduled to come online in late
2020. The Lumpkin Solar Farm, scheduled for completion in 2022,
will produce 100MW of solar energy, Walton said.
All told, Walton said, it has executed six contracts for
Facebook to supply a total of 435MW of new renewable energy in
Georgia.
