Exelon Corp. (EXC) posted higher fourth-quarter profit as expenses shrank, though revenue fell.

The energy provider reported net income of $773 million, or 79 cents a share, compared with $152 million, or 16 cents a share, in the year-ago period.

Adjusted earnings were 83 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were looking for earnings of 73 cents a share on an adjusted basis.

Operating revenue fell to $8.34 billion from $8.81 billion in the prior year. Operating expenses fell to $7.39 billion from $8.11 billion in the year-ago period.
