Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI) said Wednesday it is starting
the rollout of Canada's first next-generation 5G network.
The company said it is currently working in Vancouver, Toronto,
Ottawa and Montreal, and will expand the network to more than 20
additional markets before year's end.
Rogers also said it will "turn on 5G in the Rogers Centre,
Scotiabank Arena and Rogers Arena to enhance how fans watch the
game in the future as innovation and applications develop."
Rogers said it is partnering with Telefon AB LM Ericsson (ERIC)
on its 5G technology.
"5G is not just another G. It is a global technology that
requires local development to deliver the best social and economic
benefits to Canadians," said Jorge Fernandes, Rogers's chief
technology officer.
