North Kansas City Hospital Deploys HIPAA Compliant Auditing System in 11 Days
October 05 2010 - 8:30AM
North Kansas City Hospital deployed Cerner Corporation's
(Nasdaq:CERN) P2Sentinel™ HIPAA-compliant auditing solution in 11
days, meeting the Meaningful Use Stage 1 access requirement. The
P2Sentinel console provides a secure, analytical and reporting
interface that can be used in conjunction with and independent of
the Cerner Millennium® platform. It utilizes SenSage's enterprise
Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) technology, with
healthcare specific reports and analytics developed by Cerner, to
track how patient information is accessed. These auditing reports
are a necessary part of an accountability system which provides
measurable data for policy compliance while also identifying
potential security threats. P2Sentinel's subscription model
eliminates capital and maintenance costs by reducing the number of
hours needed to train associates and implement separate hardware
and software solutions.
The P2Sentinel system allows compliance officers to determine
who has accessed patient data in a quick, secure and efficient
manner. Furthermore, North Kansas City Hospital now has the ability
to respond to incident requests faster by using a single, easily
accessible tool.
Example reports that can be produced include: Access by User,
Log-on Failures and Multiple Device Access. These reports can be
executed, exported and emailed within an organization in minutes.
P2Sentinel has the ability to significantly reduce the time North
Kansas City Hospital spends on auditing and reporting clinical
data. The solution also:
- Creates measurable data for HIPAA and Meaningful Use
compliance
- Identifies potential security threats while maintaining
confidentiality
- Provides a single auditing and reporting tool that is capable
of receiving auditing data from both Cerner Millennium and other
non-Cerner clinical systems
- Allows costs to be managed at an operational level eliminating
the need for substantial up-front capital costs through a monthly
subscription model
"This was one of the smoothest IT implementations we've ever
experienced. Our involvement was minimal and we are excited to
start using the application," said Art Fisk, CIO of North Kansas
City Hospital. "With P2Sentinel, we are confident that our
patient's data is secure and that our hospital can immediately
respond to any security event. We look forward to continuing our
trusted partnership with Cerner for many years to come."
