Activision Blizzard Inc. studio Blizzard Entertainment said it has bought Boston-based studio Proletariat Inc. to bolster support for its popular game "World of Warcraft."

"Over the next two years we plan to hire hundreds of the best developers to serve the needs of our 'World of Warcraft' players. The extraordinary team at Proletariat will be a key component of our talent acquisition efforts," Activision Chief Executive Bobby Kotick said.

Proletariat, having most recently released the battle royale game "Spellbreak," specializes in MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

The deal comes as Activision seeks to wrap up its deal to be bought by Microsoft Corp. for $75 billion. The deal is expected to close by mid-2023.
