United Airlines Holdings Inc. (UAL) and Air New Zealand Ltd. (AIR.NZ) Wednesday said they plan to offer nonstop service between the New York area and Auckland starting next October.

The carriers said the flights between Newark Liberty International Airport and Auckland Airport will be the only nonstop service connecting New Zealand and the U.S. East Coast.

Air New Zealand will operate the year-round service three time a week using newly configurated 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from Boeing Co. (BA), while United will offer Air New Zealand code-share service on 90 flights across the U.S. for connections to Auckland via Newark, the airlines said.

Air New Zealand and United began nonstop service between Chicago and Auckland last year.
