Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV said Monday that it set new
targets around healthy food and eliminating waste and is on track
to meet its 2020 sustainability goals.
For its brands, the Dutch grocer said it aims to increase sales
of healthy food to 51% of total own-brand food sales by 2022, halve
food waste from operations by 2030 and reach zero plastic waste
from packaging by 2025 through cutting plastic and moving to fully
recyclable, reusable or compostable plastics, among other targets.
It plans for a quarter of its own-brand packaging to be from
recycled materials by 2025.
"Food-related diseases and the impact of climate change are
affecting billions of people, including those in our communities
and our business," said Frans Muller, president and chief executive
of Ahold Delhaize, in prepared remarks. "I am convinced that this
will make our business stronger and more robust for the
future."
