Electricite de France S.A. (EDF.FR) said Monday that it will build and operate a 46-megawatt biomass power plant with Meridiam and Biokala in Ivory Coast.

The companies, through their joint venture Biovea Energie, signed a contract with the government of the West African nation covering the design, funding, construction and operation of the plant for a period of 25 years. Project funding will total about 200 million euros ($221.1 million), the French energy company said, and it will be backed by the consortium together with financial partners.

EDF said construction work is expected to begin in mid-2020, while the project is expected to become operational in mid-2023.
