Sempra Energy (SRE) Monday said it agreed to sell its Chilean businesses to a unit of China's State Grid Corp. for $2.23 billion in cash.

Sempra said the sale includes its 100% stakes in Chilquinta Energia S.A. and Tecnored S.A., and its 50% interest in Eletrans S.A.

Sempra said the deal, coupled with last month's agreement to sell its businesses in Peru for $3.59 billion, concludes its planned divestiture of its South American businesses for combined cash proceeds of roughly $5.82 billion.

The San Diego energy-services holding company said it expects to complete both sales in the first quarter of 2020.
