Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) reported a problem with the roof of a
storage tank that led to above-normal gas emissions at its refinery
in Beaumont, Texas.
"A roof on a floating roof tank failed," the company said in a
statement Saturday night just before midnight. "Tank drain valve
was closed, material was contained, and vacuum trucks deployed to
recover the spilled material."
It said the emissions of 2,200 pounds of propylene, as well as
other gases, lasted about 19 hours on Saturday, but said it
anticipates no impact to production, "and continues to meet all
contractual commitments."
The 362,000-barrel-a-day Beaumont refinery is 90 miles east of
Houston.
