FRANKFURT--German consumer prices rose faster than expected in
June, reflecting an increase in services prices, data from the
Federal Statistical Office showed Thursday.
Consumer prices rose 0.3% on month in June and 1.6% on year when
measured according to national standards, Destatis said. This is a
higher print than forecast by The Wall Street Journal's poll of
economists, who expected a rise of 0.1% on month and 1.4% on
year.
Destatis said services prices were up 2.0% on year in June,
accelerating from 1.2% in May. Energy prices increased 2.2% on
year, slowing down from 4.2%.
Destatis said prices climbed 0.1% on month and 1.3% on year when
measured according to EU-harmonized standards. This HICP print was
in line with the WSJ's survey.
