International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (IAG.LN) on Tuesday said it has signed a letter of intent with Boeing Co. (BA) to buy 200 of its 737 MAX planes.

IAG said the mix of Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 10 planes would be delivered between 2023 and 2027. The aircraft are expected to be used across a number of the group's airlines, including Vueling and British Airways.

Boeing's 737 MAX jet was grounded earlier this year following two fatal crashes in Ethiopia and off the coast of Indonesia earlier this year and last year respectively.

Willie Walsh, IAG's chief executive, said: "We have every confidence in Boeing and expect that the aircraft will make a successful return to service in the coming months having received approval from the regulators."
