--Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) is in talks to buy BP PLC's (BP.LN) stake in the Shearwater gas field in the U.K.'s North Sea for around $250 million, Reuters reports, citing sources.

--Shell and BP, which hold 28% and 27.5% stakes in Shearwater respectively, have held talks in recent weeks and are close to an agreement, according to Reuters.

--The deal could still fall through however, Reuters reports.
