Antofagasta PLC (ANTO.LN) Wednesday reported a 23% rise in first-quarter copper production, citing higher throughput and higher ore grades, and said guidance for the year was unchanged.

The Chilean copper miner said copper production in the first quarter of 2019 rose to 188,600 metric tons, from 153,800 tons in the year-earlier period. However, compared with the immediately preceding quarter, production fell 14% as a result of scheduled maintenance and lower grades.

Gold production rose 93% to 62,200 ounces Antofagasta said. Molybdenum production rose 13% from the previous-year period.

The company said its group copper-production guidance for 2019 was unchanged at 750,000-790,000 tons.
