--Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) is trying to limit the number of customers who will be compensated for purchasing car insurance they didn't need, Reuters reported Wednesday.

--The company has told a federal judge overseeing the case in California that it intends to deal with drivers who got the unnecessary insurance only from 2005, although the program ran from 2002 to 2016, the report said.

--In an earlier settlement with the Consumer Finance Protection Board, the bank was allowed to limit payouts to the 2005-2016 period, the report said.
