U.K. energy regulator Ofgem said Tuesday that it has started an
investigation into National Grid Electricity Transmission's demand
forecasting for the U.K. electricity market, but stressed that this
doesn't mean it has found any non-compliance issues.
Ofgem said the investigation will examine whether National Grid
Electricity Transmission breached rules relating to its duty to
operate the system in an economic and efficient manner. It said
this includes producing and publishing appropriate forecasts of
demand.
National Grid Electricity Transmission is the system operator
for the electricity transmission network in England, Scotland and
Wales and is owned by National Grid PLC (NG.LN). It ensures supply
and demand are balanced in real time and provides demand forecasts
to the U.K. electricity market.
