International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Thursday, and banks were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.

The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 0.6% to $152.77. The European index increased 0.5% to 141.49, the Asian index improved 0.5% to 178.06, the Latin American index rose 1.2% to 266.1, and the emerging markets index increased 1.1% to 327.63.

 

ADRs of Barclays PLC (BCS) dropped 1.3% to $11.85 after the bank posted a net loss on for its first quarter on the back of litigation and other costs.

 

ADRs of Deutsche Bank AG (DB) fell 1.8% to $14.34 after the German bank reported a 79% decrease in profit, well below analysts' expectations.

 

ADRs of Baidu Inc. (BIDU) jumped 3.2% to $238.69 after the Chinese internet giant blew past expectations in its earnings report.

 

ADRs of Shire PLC (SHPG) gained 1.5% to $160.76 after the Dublin-based pharmaceutical company reported a 47% jump in profit for its first quarter.
