Item 8.01 Other Events.

On April 17, 2018, Nelnet, Inc. (the “Company”) announced the death of Stephen F. Butterfield, vice chairman of the board and co-founder of the Company. Mr. Butterfield passed away on April 16, 2018, at the age of 65, following heart complications. A copy of the press release issued in connection with the announcement is furnished as Exhibit 99.1 to this Current Report on Form 8-K.
