Evidence-based care helped lower mortality
rates by 6 percent and length of hospital stay by 26 percent.
Amil, part of UnitedHealthcare, announced it has received MCG’s
2017 Richard L. Doyle Award.
Amil is the largest health plan in Brazil, and the first health
care company in South America to be recognized with this award for
advances in inpatient clinical care management. Results
included:
- lowering mortality rates by 6
percent;
- reducing intensive care unit (ICU)
length-of-stay by 16 percent;
- decreasing total hospitalization
length-of-stay by 26 percent; and
- reducing costs per admission by 7
percent.
Amil reviewed more than 525,000 hospital admissions across eight
of the largest states in Brazil between June 2015 and June 2017.
During this time, Amil saw additional benefits from improved
clinical care management, improved operational efficiency, and
enhanced relationships and collaboration with private
hospitals.
“Using evidence-based care provides patients with the most
effective care available, which leads to improved outcomes and an
overall better health care experience,” said Molly Joseph, CEO of
UnitedHealthcare Global. “We are grateful to receive this award
from MCG that recognizes the quality care we provide for the
patients we are privileged to serve.”
“Evidence-based care is at the heart of UnitedHealthcare’s
capabilities. For the people in Brazil, we deliver locally relevant
and tailored programs to enhance access to care and improve health
outcomes. Our integrated global care model gives us insight into
the care our members and patients receive, and helps us to provide
the right type of care, at the right time, in the most appropriate
setting,” Joseph added.
Amil worked with MCG’s Inpatient & Surgical Care guidelines
to help achieve these results.
“MCG applauds UnitedHealthcare’s Amil for being in the vanguard
of evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes,” said MCG
President Jon Shreve. “The results in Brazil demonstrate the type
of improvements that can be gained through the powerful trifecta of
innovation, collaboration and compassion.”
The Richard L. Doyle Award will be presented to UnitedHealthcare
during MCG’s annual Client Forum in Phoenix, May 15-18, 2018.
