--U.K. utility company National Grid has cautioned that its gas supplies may not be enough to meet demand as freezing weather sweeps the country, according to the BBC.

--Major users such as industry and large businesses could be asked to reduce gas consumption, but consumers will only be asked to scale back usage as a last resort, says the BBC.

--The BBC reports that demand for gas hit a six-year high on Wednesday.
