Approximately 600 employees of Popular, serving as volunteers and delivering unwavering commitment, have supported the distribution of nearly 800,000 pounds of basic provisions to more than 30,000 families in 35 municipalities across the island.

Toa Baja, Caguas, Yabucoa, Orocovis, Arecibo, Utuado, Yauco, Guánica, Aibonito, Naranjito, Maricao, Jayuya, Patillas, among others, have received food, water, medical supplies, cleaning supplies and construction materials to begin rebuilding and restoring their communities.

Likewise, as part of the drive towards a sustainable infrastructure, the Fundación Banco Popular coordinated the delivery of desalination and water purification machines to the community surrounding Caño Martin Peña and the island of Vieques. The initiative was developed and implemented after identifying more than 1,000 families in need of drinking water. In addition, the Foundation is collaborating with the Planet Water Foundation and Harimau Conservation to identify additional communities in different parts of the island and facilitate access to drinking water through special filtering towers and have completed the deployment of 12 Aqua Towers across the Island. Thinking forward and aiming at promoting more resilient non-profit organizations, green energy projects will be established in strategic organizations across the island.

In addition, the Foundation established an alliance with the non-profit organization Fundación Música y País, which specializes in expressing emotion through art, to help different children and youths who were emotionally affected by this natural disaster. Around 450 children and young adults have benefited from this key initiative.

Fundación Banco Popular, in partnership with Grupo Guayacán, will assist Puerto Rico’s economic recovery by jump starting small businesses, helping them restart their operations. Furthermore, the Foundation will fund and encourage communities to re-imagine, re-think, re-define, and co-create solutions to our most pressing social challenges in a bold manner.

"Help is always in constant need. We have experienced the continuous support of many people and have seen the humanity offered every day to help our neighbor. Much has been achieved in the past few months, but we must continue with this mission and reach out to every community that needs a helping hand,” said Beatriz Polhamus, executive director of Fundación Banco Popular.

"We hope to reach the fundraising goal of $2 million by the end of December. Currently the Embracing Puerto Rico accounts have an approximate balance of $1.8 million. We know that many people want to join and help rebuild Puerto Rico and this initiative has the focus and system in place to achieve it,” concluded Polhamus.
