COPENHAGEN, Denmark,
Nov. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Varian
(NYSE: VAR), the world leader in radiotherapy equipment and
software, has been selected to equip the greater Copenhagen region's two radiation oncology
departments with modern treatment systems over the next several
years. Linear accelerators at the city's Rigshospitalet and Herlev
Hospital oncology departments will be replaced with 15 advanced
Varian TrueBeam™ and Halcyon™ treatment machines and two ViewRay
MRIdian® MR-Guided Linac systems, which also formed part of the
tender. Varian is booking an order for the first four of the
TrueBeam™ systems in the current fiscal quarter.
In a project totaling $50 million
over the next several years, Varian will install TrueBeam and
Halcyon devices, which feature a multitude of technical innovations
that dynamically synchronize imaging, patient positioning, motion
management, and treatment delivery. Rigshospitalet and Herlev
Hospital will also install a full suite of Varian's treatment
planning and oncology information software to manage cancer patient
workflow.
"We look forward to this multi-year strategic partnership with
Varian which will secure our patients and hospitals with both
continuous state-of-the-art technology and the benefits from a
strong research collaboration," said Lars
Dahl Allerup, lead strategic buyer from corporate
procurement in The Capital Region of Denmark, which owns and operates the two
hospitals.
"This major investment shows the commitment of The Capital
Region of Denmark and the Danish
government to improving cancer care and will bring the latest in
radiotherapy treatments to the country's cancer patients," said
Kolleen Kennedy, president of
Varian's Oncology Systems business. "We are delighted that Varian
has been selected to equip these projects and we look forward to
continuing to provide clinicians at both hospitals with advanced
systems to treat cancer patients as precisely and effectively as
