New Jersey American Water Investing $1.5 Million in New Water Main in Millburn

New Jersey American Water will be investing approximately $1.5
million for the installation of 2,200 feet of new water main in its
Millburn service area this fall. The company will replace water
main that was put into service as long ago as the 1930s. The aging
24-inch water line will be replaced with new 30-inch ductile iron
pipe.
"By proactively upgrading aging infrastructure, we are
continuing our commitment to ensuring quality and service for our
customers,” stated Tom Shroba, senior director, North
Operations. “New Jersey American Water customers in Millburn
should experience increased water flows for residences and fire
protection, and continued improvement in reliability."
Starting early October, the company will be installing the new
main along Glen Avenue, from the west side of Lackawanna Place near
the library to Sagamore Road. To maintain service during the
project, a temporary above ground water line will be installed,
bypassing the section of the water main that is being replaced.
Work hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Weather permitting, construction will be completed by mid-December
by New Jersey American Water’s contractor, J. Fletcher Creamer
& Son.
As part of the project, work associated with utility-owned
service lines will necessitate a 30- to 60-minute interruption of
service when the lines are connected to the main. Customers will be
notified in advance of the disruption and their patience and
understanding during this project is greatly appreciated. The crews
will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these
temporary inconveniences.
The project also includes installing nine-meter pits where none
exist. These are typically installed at the curb area of the
property, in the right of way. After installation, all that will be
visible is a 15-inch circular cover that will be flush with the
ground. Final street restoration is expected to be in the spring of
2018.
New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and
advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution near the work
sites.
These improvements in Millburn are part of New Jersey American
Water’s multimillion-dollar program to accelerate the renewal of
water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in
more than 100 communities across the state. To view additional
