For the 12th consecutive year, Owens & Minor, Inc. (NYSE:
OMI) will host its Annual Healthcare Supplier Diversity Symposium
with a focus this year on the theme of Healthier Communities 20/20:
A Clear Vision for Our Future. This year’s Symposium will highlight
successful models of public-private partnerships in healthcare that
promote a positive impact in communities. Scheduled for September
14-15 at the BWI Airport Marriott near Baltimore, the Symposium
will offer attendees the opportunity to engage in
solutions-oriented discussions that are focused around critical
economic and societal issues that disproportionally affect diverse
enterprises and communities. The driving aim of these exchanges is
to promote best practices and collaborative business-building
models that lead to the sustainable growth of supply chain
diversity in healthcare.
Keynote speakers and panelists will cover topics ranging from
how to leverage public and private partnerships to deliver quality
healthcare, to discussions over how to create health equity in
under-represented communities, as well as to discussions on how to
move business development from contacts to contracts. Speakers and
attendees will represent corporate executives and business leaders
from healthcare systems, medical products manufacturers,
distributors, diverse enterprises, government, and academia.
One of the highlights of the Symposium is the Earl G. Reubel
Awards Gala, where Owens & Minor will honor leadership in
diversity advocacy that is demonstrated by healthcare systems,
diverse enterprises, and civic leaders. Named for the founder of
Virginia-based Kerma Medical Products, the award was established by
Owens & Minor to honor the late Earl G. Reubel, whose vision of
building a legacy through Kerma Medical demonstrated the true
spirit of entrepreneurship. The keynote speaker for the 2017 Earl
G. Reubel Awards Gala on Thursday, September 14, will be Janice
Bryant Howroyd, founder and CEO of Act-1 Group. She will explore
the unique value proposition that diverse corporations offer toward
unlocking economic growth. Earlier that day, the conference will
feature a roundtable discussion moderated by James Lowry, President
of James H. Lowry & Associates. Panelists will include Cody
Phipps, Chairman, President & CEO of Owens & Minor, and
Shelley Stewart, Jr., Vice President – DuPont Sourcing &
Logistics.
“At Owens & Minor, we believe that diversity strengthens our
businesses, our communities, and our society,” said Phipps. “Our
vision for the future is one where we celebrate the diversity of
ideas from different cultures, and where the citizens of our
communities have equal access to opportunities for growth and
development. We know that new ideas and innovation come from a wide
variety of sources, and we want to tap those ideas. Each year at
our Symposium, we welcome the opportunity to network and share our
experiences and our ideas.”
The success of this industry-wide event is the result of many
supporting partners. Owens & Minor extends special recognition
to Diamond Sponsors – B. Braun Medical, Inc., Evanston Technology
Partners, NTT Data, Medtronic, and McKinsey & Company. Special
recognition is also extended to founding sponsor the Healthcare
Supplier Diversity Alliance (HSDA), whose long-standing support
reflects a noteworthy commitment to diversity.
This year’s event will be held at the BWI Marriott in Linthicum,
