Facts about CP in this city

The Calgary and Edmonton Railway (later purchased by CPR) first came to Strathcona in 1891 when this community wasn't yet part of Edmonton (Strathcona and Edmonton amalgamated in 1912).
Strathcona was named after Donald A. Smith (Lord Strathcona) who drove the last spike at Craigellachie, BC.
On June 19^th, 1913, the High Level Bridge opens and extends Canadian Pacific service from South Edmonton (Strathcona) to Edmonton.
The first railway came to Edmonton proper in 1904, many years after it was established as a trading post for the Hudson's Bay Company and one year before officially becoming a city.
In 1900, CPR senior director, Donald Smith, later Lord Strathcona, personally equipped and funded a mounted cavalry to send off to South Africa to fight in the Boer war. The regiment, now based in Edmonton, would become known as Lord Strathcona's Horse.
Today, CP employees approximately 150 people in the Edmonton area.
