AMERICAN SHARED HOSPITAL SERVICES (NYSE American: AMS), a leading provider of turnkey technology solutions for advanced radiosurgical and radiation therapy services, announced today that physicians have begun treating patients at the Gamma Knife del Pacífico Institute that AMS has opened at the Air Force Hospital in Lima, Peru.

AMS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ernest A. Bates, M.D., said, "We are proud that AMS has made the benefits of the Gamma Knife available to cancer patients in Peru. With a population of more than 9 million in metropolitan Lima alone, and more than 28 million in the country as a whole, we anticipate significant demand for Gamma Knife services at our newest center, the first and only Gamma Knife center in Peru."

Dr. Aldo Berti, an internationally recognized neurosurgeon, is the medical director for the Gamma Knife program at the Gamma Knife del Pacífico Institute.
