CCNE Accreditation Demonstrates Strayer’s Commitment to Advancing Nursing Careers

Strayer University today announced the accreditation of its online Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. The program, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), http://www.aacn.nche.edu/, helps working nurses achieve their BSN and stay competitive in the evolving healthcare industry.

“Healthcare is changing rapidly, driven by the increased use of technology and an aging population with complex chronic conditions,” said Brian Jones, President of Strayer University. “Students want to develop their skills and increase earning potential, while healthcare human resource managers are looking for nurses that are better prepared for team-based, data-driven, coordinated care.”

The Strayer RN to BSN program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, safety and quality improvement, informatics, evidence-based practice, ethics and leadership, data management, community health, and clinical reasoning and intuition. Learning outcomes of the program include applying knowledge of healthcare policy and regulatory requirements to effectively function in today’s healthcare environment, as well as providing equitable, culturally-competent care to all patients.

“Only about half of today’s registered nurses hold a BSN degree,” said Hannah Hughes, Vice Provost and Dean of Strayer University’s School of Nursing. “The Institute of Medicine recommends that by 2020, that number should reach 80 percent. The power of Strayer’s online RN to BSN program is that it enables working students to broaden their perspective on patient care delivery and the overall healthcare system, which creates a strong foundation for career advancement. I personally know the impact that educational advancement can have and am excited to support our students in achieving their personal and professional goals.”

All new BSN students must hold an active, unencumbered RN license, which earns a minimum of 45 credits toward their 180-credit BSN. Students can also receive up to 90 additional transfer credits for previous coursework and degrees. Ten courses must be taken through Strayer University and can be completed in as little as 12 months (4 quarters)*. The Strayer nursing team works with all students to determine a course schedule that is right for them.

The program’s entire faculty and staff are nurses who understand the importance of flexibility for working adult students. Strayer’s program accounts for these demands.
